"I pray for those will believe..."

I want to make a commitment to using this blog as sort of a journal to share my thoughts with those who are interested in keeping up with Operation Exodus Inner City and God's work through me as I intern there this summer.

View from 168th street in Washington Heights

If you would like to support me either prayerfully or financially, I am including the support letter I mailed out awhile back.

There is a passage in John where Jesus prays for all believers. (John 17: 20-23) It is a beautiful illustration of how the love found in God's relationship within himself flows out onto his people. He desires for the body of Christ to be one in him, just as he and the Father are one. Jesus prays for those who will receive the message his disciples bring to them. This is his prayer:

“My prayer is not for them (his disciples) alone.
I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.
May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity.
Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me."

Thank you for your prayers and support.

God bless and much love,
Bethany

Dear friends,
Throughout my sophomore year at Covenant College, I have been seeking an opportunity to serve the Lord by working with youth. In January, God provided an opportunity for me to go to New York City in June to work with Operation Exodus Inner City in the Washington Heights. I am grateful to be participating in a summer internship program with Mission to the World.
After living in New York City for a semester of college, I felt burdened for the city I had grown to love. When I discovered that MTW had a summer internship in the Washington Heights, I felt a strong sense of calling to go there. Operation Exodus Inner City was founded in 1988 in response to the desperate needs of children in the Latino community in Upper Manhattan. The children are generally behind in their education and are beginning to display the negative effects of peer pressure in their lives. The mission of Operation Exodus Inner City is to promote personal growth, high educational achievement, and leadership to these children through quality out-of-school education, caring mentoring relationships, school placement and parent workshops. As a summer intern, I will be working with Operation Exodus and assisting the short-term mission teams that help with the summer school program.
I ask that you prayerfully consider partnering with me.  I believe that the Lord has called me to serve him in this way, but I am not called to serve alone. MTW estimates that it will cost roughly $5000 for me to travel to New York City and minister there for two months. I need the financial support of the Church in Chattanooga and in Milwaukee to serve with Operation Exodus in New York City. I also am in need of your prayers to sustain me as I minister there. Even if you cannot commit to support me financially, I would still like to keep you updated as to what the Lord is doing in my life and through the ministry of Operation Exodus. If you do choose to support me, please simply tear off the form on the bottom of this page, and mail it to the address listed.  All checks should be made payable to Mission to the World, and should include the number 11870 (my MTW account number) in the memo line of the check. If you would like to donate online, you can go the website https://donations.mtw.org and choose “make a one time donation” and search for my account via last name or support account number.
This is an exciting opportunity for me to grow in my own understanding of God’s kingdom as I share the gospel with children and families in the Heights.  Please consider any way that you are able to contribute to this opportunity. I will do my best to get in touch with you, but if you want to contact me my cell phone number is (414) 292-5274. I also started a blog to share my thoughts and prayers with anyone who is interested: loosethechainsofinjustice58.blogpot.com. Thank you so much.
In Christ,
Bethany Daniels
